Description
Barolo Bussia Dardi Le Rose is far more than an extraordinary wine; it is a living piece of Piedmontese viticultural history. Produced by Poderi Colla, this Barolo carries the immense legacy of one of the most venerable winemaking families in the Langhe. Founded by the legendary Beppe Colla (the mastermind behind the historic successes of Prunotto) and driven today with the same uncompromising commitment by his daughter Federica and grandson Pietro, the estate champions a timeless vision: wine must be a transparent reflection of its vineyard and vintage, completely detached from passing trends. Notably, Beppe Colla was the first winemaker in the region, back in 1961, to vinify and explicitly state the name of a single vineyard on the label—pioneering the single-vineyard Cru concept in Barolo. The Dardi vineyard in Monforte d’Alba was among the very first protagonists of this cultural revolution.
This Barolo originates entirely within the renowned Bussia MGA, specifically from the historic sub-parcel named Dardi (historically also referred to as Le Rose), located in the municipality of Monforte d’Alba. The vineyard sits at an altitude ranging between 300 and 350 meters above sea level, boasting ideal South and South-West exposures. The terroir is a textbook example of Sant’Agata Marl Fossils: a compact calcareous-marly soil enriched with clays, fine sands, and silty sediments. This unique geological composition gives the Nebbiolo grape an unmatchable dual identity: the signature, brooding power and structural density typical of Monforte d’Alba, coupled with an aromatic and expressive complexity of rare nobility.
In the cellar, the Colla family practices “dynamic tradition,” utilizing technology only to ensure absolute cleanliness rather than manipulating the wine. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats with skin contact lasting 15 to 20 days under controlled temperatures, ensuring an optimal, balanced extraction of noble tannins. The aging regime embodies the absolute core of classic Barolo: the wine rests for 24 to 28 months in large, neutral Slavonian and French oak casks, completely avoiding barriques to protect the pure integrity of the Nebbiolo grape. The “Bussia Dardi Le Rose” unfolds in the glass with aristocratic notes of violets, tar, licorice, tobacco, and dark spices. On the palate, it is warm and beautifully austere in its youth, showcasing a majestic balance between dense, vertical tannins and a profound savory depth that preludes a monumental cellaring potential.
