Description

Petresco is the deepest soul of Podere Le Cinciole, a pure Sangiovese born in Panzano in Chianti, within the “Conca d’Oro” where the terrain and altitude dictate the rules. Valeria Viganò and Luca Orsini, who arrived here in the early 90s, have transformed this estate into a model of sustainability, practicing organic and biodynamic farming long before it became a trend. The name “Le Cinciole” itself is rooted in Etruscan-Roman history, anciently referring to the lands of a certain Quintius, testifying to a millennial agricultural vocation.

The secret of this wine lies in its terroir: the Petresco vineyards are rooted in galestro soil and clay-limestone schists, resting on solid pietraforte rock at an altitude of nearly 500 meters. This combination grants the Sangiovese an extraordinary freshness and a distinctive acidic backbone. In the cellar, the approach is one of minimalism: spontaneous fermentation in cement tanks using indigenous yeasts, followed by a long 24-month aging period in small French oak barrels and further refinement in the bottle.

In the glass, Petresco doesn’t seek easy approval; it aims straight for elegance. It is a textural and vibrant red, where ripe cherry intertwines with notes of forest floor, leather, and a hint of cocoa. On the palate, it strikes with its clean sip and a dense yet velvety tannic texture, closing with a mineral and almost savory persistence. This is a wine of great character, capable of evolving in the cellar for over twenty years, carrying with it all the austere and refined strength of Panzano.
