Description
Chianti Classico DOCG 2023 – Isole e Olena
The Meeting of History and a New Era
Isole e Olena’s Chianti Classico is not just a wine; it is the symbol of a stylistic revolution sparked in the 1970s by Paolo De Marchi. The 2023 vintage marks a pivotal moment for the estate in San Donato in Poggio: it is one of the first complete expressions under the new stewardship of the EPI Group (already custodians of the legendary Biondi-Santi). The estate has successfully preserved the technical rigor and finesse that made this label world-famous, carrying De Marchi’s “visionary” legacy into a new era of absolute production precision.
High-Altitude Terroir and the 2023 Vintage
The vineyards, perched between 400 and 500 meters above sea level, benefit from a unique geographic isolation that ensures exceptional freshness and verticality. The 2023 vintage stands out for its extraordinary balance—a season that perfectly highlighted the floral and fragrant side of Sangiovese, supported by small percentages of Canaiolo and Syrah. The soil, a masterfully balanced mix of galestro and Tuscan macigno, provides the wine with that mineral backbone which is the unmistakable hallmark of Isole e Olena, keeping the sip dynamic and refined.
Technical and Sensory Profile
Vinification follows the long-standing estate tradition, utilizing temperature-controlled fermentation and aging for approximately one year in oak barrels of varying sizes. In the glass, the Chianti Classico 2023 reveals a transparent and brilliant ruby hue. On the nose, it opens with a burst of violet, crunchy cherry, and hints of orange peel, followed by a delicately spicy and balsamic finish. On the palate, the attack is fresh, featuring dense yet remarkably silky tannins that lead into a sapid and vibrant persistence. This wine perfectly captures the “light” of the territory, making it ideal for those seeking absolute elegance in a glass.
