Description

Cepparello  2022 – Isole e Olena

The Icon of Pure Sangiovese

Cepparello 2022 represents the pinnacle of Isole e Olena’s production and stands as one of the pillars of modern Tuscan viticulture. Born in 1980 from the intuition of Paolo De Marchi, this wine was among the first “Super Tuscans” to bet exclusively on pure Sangiovese, proving to the world that San Donato could produce reds of international stature without the support of Bordeaux varieties. Today, under the expert stewardship of the EPI Group, Cepparello 2022 continues to evolve toward an even more “sartorial” definition, blending the power of the fruit with an aristocratic stylistic precision.

The Radda Terroir and the 2022 Vintage

The grapes for Cepparello are sourced from a selection of the estate’s finest vineyards, characterized by soils predominantly composed of galestro (schistous clay) and situated at altitudes reaching nearly 500 meters. The 2022 vintage was marked by a warm and luminous summer; however, it is precisely here that Isole e Olena’s privileged position made the difference. The altitude and the proximity to dense woodlands ensured the necessary diurnal temperature swings to keep the palate fresh and vibrant. The result is a Sangiovese of extraordinary concentration, capable of translating the warmth of the year into deep polyphenolic richness without ever losing the territory’s signature acidic drive.

Technical Profile and Aging Potential

Vinification involves extended skin contact to extract noble tannins, followed by an aging period of approximately 18-20 months in French oak barriques (one-third of which are new). In the glass, Cepparello 2022 reveals a dark, magnetic ruby color. The bouquet is a complex mosaic: ripe blackberry, wild plum, and violet blend with tertiary notes of blond tobacco, leather, and an elegant balsamic trail of eucalyptus. On the palate, it is sumptuous, with a dense and velvety tannic texture that envelops the senses, closing with a remarkably long finish reminiscent of graphite and cherries in spirit. This is a wine destined for a very long evolution in the cellar, capable of telling its story for the next twenty years.
