Bourgogne Rouge DOC “Vigne Comte de la Chapelle” 2023 – Jean-Marie Fourrier
Bourgogne Rouge “Vigne Comte de la Chapelle” is a fascinating, high-profile project within the Burgundy landscape, shaped by the vision of Jean-Marie Fourrier, one of the most iconic and revered winemakers in Gevrey-Chambertin. Beginning in 2022, Fourrier took the reins of the historic Domaine Vigne Comte de la Chapelle, an exceptional estate encompassing 7.5 hectares across some of the finest terroirs in the Côte de Beaune. Jean-Marie’s mission is clear: to apply the same bespoke approach, meticulous vineyard management, and high-precision enology dedicated to his famous Grand Crus to the vineyards of this historic property.
This remarkable Bourgogne Rouge originates from a single 1.63-hectare parcel nestled in the Côte de Beaune, featuring an extraordinary asset: old vines (Vieilles Vignes) planted back in 1963. These vines, over sixty years old, drive their roots deep into a classic soil composition of calcareous marl and clay sediments. The advanced age of the vineyard naturally restricts yields, perfectly balancing the signature freshness and verticality of limestone soils with a concentration of fruit and structural depth rarely encountered in a regional appellation.
In the cellar, Jean-Marie Fourrier showcases his unmistakable signature—defined by tremendous finesse and a remarkably light touch. The vinification of the 2023 vintage relies on spontaneous fermentation triggered exclusively by indigenous yeasts. Extraction is handled with extreme gentleness to avoid over-concentration, while oak aging is strictly calibrated to protect the varietal purity of the grape. The result is a Pinot Noir of incredible clarity and precision: the nose reveals delicate aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, and blueberry, layered with floral violet notes and a subtle, chalky mineral lift. On the palate, it surprises with its silky texture, ultra-fine tannins, and vibrant acidity, delivering a focused and elegant mouthfeel that instantly recalls the elite pedigree of Fourrier’s legendary red wines.
