Bourgogne Blanc DOC “Vigne Comte de la Chapelle” 2023 – Jean-Marie Fourrier
Bourgogne Blanc “Vigne Comte de la Chapelle” is the brilliant white counterpart to the high-profile project undertaken by Jean-Marie Fourrier, a cult figure in the Côte de Nuits, within the historic Domaine Vigne Comte de la Chapelle estate in the Côte de Beaune. Upon taking over vineyard management in 2022, Fourrier seamlessly brought his philosophy of absolute purity and high-precision winemaking into a territory legendary for some of the world’s finest white wines. His vision centers on a bespoke, artisanal approach designed to extract maximum mineral and territorial definition from Chardonnay without ever over-extracting.
This noble Bourgogne Blanc originates from carefully tended vines planted on predominantly limestone-rich soils with deep marly sediments, which naturally impart vibrant energy and a striking, razor-sharp acidity to the grapes. The 2023 vintage benefited from optimal ripening conditions that perfectly balanced a rich, pure core of fruit with the classic citrusy and chalky freshness characteristic of the terroir.
In the cellar, Jean-Marie Fourrier showcases a masterful, minimalist touch focused entirely on expressive clarity: fermentation is triggered spontaneously using indigenous yeasts, and pressing is handled with extreme gentleness. For aging, Fourrier relies on a highly calibrated and restrained use of oak, utilizing a minimal percentage of new barrels to ensure that sweet or toasted oak notes never overshadow the grape’s natural varietal character. The result is a Chardonnay of exceptional focus: the nose opens with elegant scents of green apple, lemon zest, and white blossoms, melting into a deep, savory mineral and saline undertone. On the palate, it surprises with its vertical drive, seamless silky texture, and a tense, vibrant finish of splendid persistence.
