Description

Casanova di Neri’s Tenuta Nuova Brunello di Montalcino is one of the most iconic wines in the winery’s history and one of the wines that have helped define the modern image of Brunello di Montalcino. Casanova di Neri was founded in 1971 by Giovanni Neri, and, over the years, it has established itself as one of the most important and recognizable wineries in the Ilcinese region, building its identity through a deep commitment to the vineyard, grape selection, and the celebration of the diverse expressions of Sangiovese.

Tenuta Nuova is located in the southeastern part of Montalcino, in an area particularly well-suited to the cultivation of Sangiovese. The vineyards are planted on soils characterized by a significant presence of galestro, clay, and limestone, with good drainage and a natural mineral richness. The location, altitude, and temperature fluctuations characteristic of this part of the region contribute to a slow and steady ripening of the grapes, promoting the development of complex aromas and a robust structure, while maintaining freshness and balance.

It is precisely the interplay between soil, exposure, and microclimate that gives Tenuta Nuova its distinctive character. Here, Sangiovese finds ideal conditions to express depth and concentration without losing that sense of elegance and tension that is one of the most compelling aspects of great Brunellos. The proximity of wooded areas and the hilly terrain also contribute to creating a vineyard environment rich in biodiversity, where the vines benefit from favorable climatic conditions throughout their entire growing cycle.

At the Casanova di Neri winery, the philosophy is focused on precision and highlighting the identity of each individual vineyard. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected before vinification. The Brunello is aged in accordance with the lengthy timeframes required by the appellation, with oak aging designed not to overpower the character of the Sangiovese but to accompany its evolution and promote the integration of its tannic structure. A further period of bottle aging completes the process before the wine is released for sale.

In the glass, Tenuta Nuova reveals a deep, intense, and complex Sangiovese, in which ripe fruit intertwines with floral, spicy, and balsamic notes. Cherry and black cherry gradually give way to hints of undergrowth, tobacco, leather, spices, and fine woods. On the palate, it displays structure and concentration, supported by a substantial yet precise tannic framework and a fresh, savory component that lends it momentum and length. It is a Brunello capable of combining power, elegance, and great aging potential—qualities that make it particularly interesting even many years after the harvest.

Tenuta Nuova is a wine designed to be enjoyed with meals and to age well: it pairs naturally with classic Tuscan dishes, such as Florentine steak, grilled red meats, roasts, braised meats, game, and aged cheeses. It is also a wine worth cellaring over the years, as the Sangiovese’s structure gradually reveals an even more captivating tertiary complexity.
