LA CALCINARA Clochard 2023.

The Clochard 2013 from Fattoria La Calcinara is a white wine from the Marche region that expresses the essence of the Conero territory. Produced primarily from Verdicchio grapes (90%), with a touch of Chardonnay and Malvasia (10%), this wine reflects the Berluti family’s passion and dedication to enhancing native grape varieties.

The vineyards, located in Candia, in the province of Ancona, are situated at an altitude of 200 meters above sea level, with west-facing exposure. The soils are composed of marl, calcareous banks, and sandstone, with a clay-sandy texture rich in limestone and marine fossils, giving the wine a distinct minerality.

The harvest is done manually: the Chardonnay is harvested in the last ten days of August, while the Verdicchio and Malvasia are harvested in the second ten days of September. The winemaking process involves maceration on the skins for the Chardonnay, followed by spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts at a controlled temperature. The blending of the wines takes place in December, with aging on the fine lees for six months, and bottling in April after a light sulfitation.

To the eye, the Clochard 2013 presents a brilliant straw-yellow color. On the nose, it offers a complex bouquet with floral notes and mineral hints. On the palate, it is full and fragrant, with excellent sapidity and minerality deriving from the Conero soil’s limestone. The persistence is remarkable, with a verticality typical of Verdicchio, harmonized by the softness of the Chardonnay.

With an alcohol content of 13%, the Clochard 2013 is ideal for pairing with fish appetizers, oysters, raw seafood, fish-based first courses, and simple preparations such as salt-baked sea bass. It also pairs well with dishes like cacio e pepe, making it a versatile wine, suitable from aperitifs to a full meal by the sea.
