Description
Brunello di Montalcino di Pieve Santa Restituta is produced by Angelo Gaja with Sangiovese grosso grapes from the best vineyards: Sugarille, Sant Pietro, Castagno and Pian dei Cerri. Fermentation for 30 days in steel tanks and aging for 12 months in barriques (first, second and third passage) and 12 months in large barrels.
The Pieve Santa Restituta was purchased by the Gaja family in 1994. The company is located on “white” rocky soils in the southwest quadrant of the Brunello di Montalcino appellation. The land had remained uncultivated by the end of the sharecropping and proved to be ideal for the cultivation of Sangiovese capable of becoming Brunello di Montalcino.
Gaja is one of the most prestigious Italian wineries. It was founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja, but became the star of contemporary winemaking with Angelo Gaja – Giovanni’s great-grandson, who first introduced innovative technological concepts and practices in the Langa. Today Angelo Gaja is still the owner of the winery, although much of the management work is entrusted to his two daughters. In addition to the Piedmontese companies, in recent years Gaja has also expanded into Tuscany, where it now owns several vineyards in the most suitable areas of Bolgheri and Montalcino
