Ettore Germano’s Barolo Vignarionda comes from the famous cru of Serralunga d’Alba. Ettore Germano’s 2016 Barolo Vignarionda is a relatively recent addition to the lineup. In fact, this release—limited to just 2,700 bottles—is the second vintage produced. It is a concentrated and bold wine, with a bouquet reminiscent of currants and wild plums. Mineral notes of dried fruit, iron, baked clay, and smoky licorice are well integrated into the wine’s silky texture.

Sergio Germano runs the winery founded by his father, Ettore, north of Serralunga. After completing his studies at the School of Enology in Alba, Sergio worked for several years at Fontanafredda, one of the largest wineries in the area, before returning to the family estate in 1993.

Ettore Germano’s Barolos come from vineyards in the municipality of Serralunga, in the southeastern corner of the Barolo appellation. The vineyards are located at an elevation of about 350 meters above sea level. The soils here are rich in limestone, clay, and sand; they tend to produce Nebbiolo grapes with a fuller body than those grown further west within the Barolo appellation (around the villages of Barolo and La Morra).
