Description
Clos Rougeard Saumur-Champigny 2019
The Clos Rougeard Saumur-Champigny 2019 is the quintessential Cabernet Franc from the Loire Valley, crafted by one of France’s most legendary estates. The historic property in Chacé, now under the stewardship of the Bouygues family following the long legacy of the Foucault brothers, continues to vinify with absolute respect for tradition, biodiversity, and the terroir.
The 2019 vintage was characterized by a warm but well-balanced climate, with perfectly ripe harvests and low yields. The vines, cultivated without the use of chemicals and with naturally low yields (around 30 hl/ha), have deep roots in the tuffeau limestone soils that impart a distinct minerality to the wine.
Vinification remains artisanal: spontaneous fermentations in open vats, no unnecessary manipulation, aging for approximately 24 months in French oak barriques – partly new – and subsequent bottle aging before release. All without filtration or clarification.
In the glass, the Saumur-Champigny 2019 presents itself with elegance and depth: a broad nose of ripe red fruits, blackcurrant, white pepper, sweet tobacco, graphite, and violets. On the palate, it is ample and layered, with a fine texture of velvety tannins, perfectly integrated freshness, and a length that seems to go on forever.
A wine that combines power and grace, capable of expressing itself with intensity from a young age, but which reaches its full potential after a few years of rest in the cellar. Ideal for those seeking authenticity and longevity.
