Description
While Chianti Classico represents tradition, “Le Bighellone” is the result of sudden fascination and meticulous research. William Goldschmidt identified a specific estate between 700 and 1000 meters in altitude as the ideal site to challenge the Tuscan climate with Pinot Nero. Thanks to cool, well-draining soils, the grapes of Clivo Altura ripen about three weeks later than the regional standard, maintaining extraordinary freshness and balance.
Artisanal Cellar Philosophy In this wine, the light touch of William Goldschmidt allows the altitude to speak. The grapes are vinified with a portion of whole clusters to provide aromatic complexity and verticality. Spontaneous fermentation and gravity racking are ancient techniques used by Clivo Altura to preserve the elegance of this noble variety. The goal is transparency: a wine that seeks precision of fruit rather than power.
Sensory Notes The 2024 vintage offers a Pinot Nero of great tension and drinkability. The nose expresses subtle, clean notes typical of slow ripening, while the palate is fine and silky, supported by a vibrant acidic vein. The name “Le Bighellone” and the artistic label (an etching by Peter Goldschmidt from 1979) highlight the artisanal nature of this extremely limited production.
