The 2022 Il Nibbio della Sala represents the ultimate expression of pure Chardonnay from Castello della Sala, the Antinori family’s Umbrian estate. It originates from a small vineyard of approximately 1.5 hectares on Monte Nibbio—at an altitude of 494 meters—featuring a predominantly northeast exposure and calcareous, stony soils. It is precisely this location, characterized by cool conditions and significant diurnal temperature variations, that imparts a distinct mineral tension and great precision to the wine.

The Chardonnay grapes, harvested manually in the early hours of the morning, are processed with great delicacy in the Castello della Sala cellar, designed to exploit the principle of gravity and reduce mechanical interventions to a minimum. The result is a Chardonnay of great elegance and depth, built to express the unique character of the vineyard.

In the glass, the 2022 Nibbio della Sala is intense and complex, offering aromas of green apple, citrus, bergamot, and white flowers, accompanied by delicate notes of flint. On the palate, it is full-bodied and structured yet supported by vibrant freshness and pronounced minerality, with hints of vanilla, butter, and hazelnut. The finish is long, savory, and persistent.
