Description
Within the Belvedere1 project, Tenuta de’ Carfini represents the estate’s most profound and terroir-driven expression of Sangiovese. While the Belvedere1 Chianti Classico showcases the winery’s more immediate and approachable side, Tenuta de’ Carfini comes from a selection of older vineyards planted between 1970 and 1975 on soils rich in alluvial deposits and river stones. These unique conditions give the wine its distinctive personality, remarkable energy, and pronounced mineral character. Production is intentionally limited, with low yields and only a few thousand bottles produced each year.
Located in Castellina in Chianti, the estate follows a philosophy based on regenerative agriculture and minimal intervention in the cellar. Fermentation occurs spontaneously in open concrete tanks without temperature control, and the wine is bottled without filtration whenever possible, preserving the full character of both vineyard and vintage. Following an extended skin maceration, the wine ages slowly in large oak casks, gaining complexity while maintaining precision and freshness.
In the glass, it displays a bright, transparent ruby color, typical of great terroir-driven Sangiovese. The aromatic profile is refined and layered, offering notes of red cherry, wild berries, rose petals, and delicate balsamic nuances, intertwined with subtle spice and earthy undertones that reflect its origin. On the palate, the wine reveals a beautiful balance between freshness, savory minerality, and finely textured tannins. Vibrant, precise, and remarkably elegant, it finishes with impressive length and a sense of harmony that suggests excellent ageing potential.
Tenuta de’ Carfini is a Chianti Classico that values elegance over power and depth over concentration. It is a wine that rewards attentive drinking, revealing new layers and nuances as it opens in the glass. It pairs beautifully with mushroom dishes, truffle-based cuisine, roasted meats, and aged cheeses, while also possessing the structure and balance required for long-term cellaring.
More than simply a label, Tenuta de’ Carfini embodies the essence of Belvedere1’s philosophy: respect for the land, artisanal craftsmanship, and a commitment to producing wines that express the authentic character of Castellina in Chianti as faithfully as possible.
