Arillo in Terrabianca – Poggio Croce – Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG – 2022
100% Sangiovese | Radda in Chianti | Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG
Arillo’s Poggio Croce 2022 from Terrabianca is a 100% Sangiovese Chianti Classico Riserva, produced in San Fedele a Paterno, in the municipality of Radda in Chianti. Since 2019, the Burkard family has managed this estate, whose name refers to the whitish patches on the ground. The soils are characterized by galestro, clay, and stony components; the surrounding woods and daily temperature fluctuations help define the microclimate of this part of the Radda region.
The grapes come from a vineyard located at an elevation of 410 meters. In 2022, after months of scarce rainfall, the rains in late July restored the soil’s water balance. Yields were below average, with gradual ripening facilitated by the temperature differences between day and night. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by a post-fermentation maceration lasting 10–15 days. The wine is then aged for 12 months in large European oak barrels.
This Riserva combines body and freshness, with smooth tannins and good length. Cherry and violet notes accompany spicy undertones, without overshadowing the wine’s appeal: what matters most is the balance between the texture on the palate and the lively acidity. It pairs well with roasts, lamb, and game. A bottle to choose for the dinner table, with enough structure to pair with flavorful dishes and the potential to age in the cellar.
