Description

Ornellaia 201 Bolgheri Superiore by Tenuta dell’Ornellaia is the “Grand Vin” of the estate: exceptional balance, power, elegance, bond with the territory – Bolgheri – great aging potential, are just some of the distinctive characteristics of one of the most iconic Italian wines

Ornellaia 2019 represents one of the great versions of this label. The usual intense color indicates a wine of great structure and intensity, the nose follows with a fruity at the same time ripe and fresh, underlined by classic balsamic and spicy notes. On the palate it is rich, dense and broad, with an exceptional tannic texture, dense and velvety, of great refinement, which spreads throughout the mouth. The long finish ends with a sensation of firmness and finely spiced notes.

Tenuta dell’Ornellaia can count on 280 hectares of vineyards divided into more than 70 plots based on the type of soil, exposure and variety. There are three main types of soil: marine (sedimentary deposit from the sea), alluvial (marly, sandy clays with mineral veins) and volcanic (shale, gravel and porous soils). All the vineyards are about 6 km from the Mediterranean coast. The mild maritime climate is characterized by sea breezes that keep the sky clear, low rainfall and long summers that favor the aromatic development of the grape.

The vineyards are planted with high density, from 5,000 to 8,700 hl / ha, and are characterized by different training systems, mainly spurred cordon and single Guyot.

The bunches are harvested by hand in 15 kg baskets and then selected by hand on a double sorting table, both before and after destemming. The grapes are finally softly pressed. Each vine and single parcel is vinified separately. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks at temperatures between 26-30 ° C for two weeks, followed by 10-15 days of maceration on the skins. The malolactic fermentation takes place mainly in oak barrels, 70% new and 30% second passage. The wine then rests in barrique for about 18 months. After the first 12 months of maturation, the wine is blended and then returned to barrique for a further 6 months. After bottling, the wine matures 12 months before being marketed.
