Ornellaia 2020 represents one of the great versions of this label. The usual intense color indicates a wine of great structure and intensity, the nose follows with a fruitiness that is both ripe and fresh, underlined by classic balsamic and spicy notes. On the palate it is rich, dense and ample, with an exceptional tannic texture, dense and velvety, of great refinement, which extends throughout the mouth. The long finish ends with a feeling of firmness and finely spiced notes.

The Ornellaia estate can count on 280 hectares of vineyards divided into more than 70 parcels based on the type of soil, exposure and variety. There are three main types of soil: marine (sedimentary deposit from the sea), alluvial (marly, sandy clays with mineral veins) and volcanic (shale, gravel and porous soils). All vineyards are approximately 6 km from the Mediterranean coast. The mild maritime climate is characterized by sea breezes which keep the sky clear, low rainfall and long summers which favor the aromatic development of the berry.

The vineyards are planted at high density, from 5,000 to 8,700 hl/ha, and are characterized by different training systems, mainly spurred cordon and single Guyot.

The bunches are harvested by hand in 15 kg baskets and then selected by hand on a double sorting table, both before and after destemming. The grapes are finally softly pressed. Each grape variety and single parcel is vinified separately. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks at temperatures between 26-30°C for two weeks, followed by 10-15 days of maceration on the skins. The malolactic fermentation takes place mainly in oak barrels, 70% new and 30% second passage. The wine then rests in barriques for about 18 months. After the first 12 months of maturation, the wine is blended and then returned to barriques for a further 6 months. After bottling, the wine ages for 12 months before being marketed.
