Description
The Barolo Bussia 2021 doesn’t need to shout—it speaks quietly, and those who know, listen. It’s the only single-vineyard wine made by Rinaldi, an exception that proves the rule, sourced from a parcel in Bussia Soprana in Monforte d’Alba—a borderland site with depth and gravity. This is a Barolo that flows downward rather than outward, dark yet sharp, always consistent with the house style: no shortcuts, just time and conviction.
A vineyard that speaks for itself
The grapes come from a single plot in Bussia Soprana, one of the most iconic and multifaceted crus in the Langhe, where Nebbiolo becomes firm and stony. Calcareous marl soils and mid-altitude slopes yield wines of tension and depth. For the Rinaldi family, this vineyard has always been treated as a vessel of purity, allowed to speak in its own voice—unblended, unmanipulated.
Rigorous winemaking, without noise
As with all Rinaldi wines, the 2021 Bussia follows a traditional path: spontaneous fermentation in wooden vats, long macerations, and aging in large Slavonian oak casks for around 36 months. No tricks, no makeup—just what’s necessary to let the wine speak, not the winemaker.
A Barolo that’s both severe and luminous
In the glass, Barolo Bussia 2021 shows a deep but transparent garnet hue. The nose is finely detailed: amarena cherry, rosehip, rust, dried mint, and white pepper slowly emerge, in a cadence that never rushes. The palate is tense, layered, and uncompromising, with firm but well-calibrated tannins, a sharp line of acidity, and a long, stony, almost saline finish. A wine that doesn’t offer itself easily—but when it does, it leaves a lasting impression.
