Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve 2019 is one of the most representative and well-known labels in the Chianti Classico area and in the whole of Tuscany. It comes from the selection of the best grapes from the entire property and ages for 24 months in Troncais and Allier barriques. The result is a rich, powerful Sangiovese with a dense tannic texture. This is the company’s flagship bottle, the most renowned and loved one; a splendid bottle to drink immediately or forget in the cellar for a few years. Fontodi is a certainty, always. The Fontodi farm was bought by the Manetti family in 1968. Its location – right in the center of the Chianti Classico denomination, with vineyards facing south, soils rich in marl, in the beautiful natural amphitheater which is the Conca d’oro of Panzano in Chiantia about 400 m asl – is dominant. The management has been organic for many years now; there is even a small group of Chianinas from which the base of the fertilizer is obtained to fertilize the vines. Some old vines from the 60s and 70s are still in production, but most have been replaced by high-density vineyards whose plants derive both from mass selection and from the best clones that emerged during the Chianti Classico 2000 project. The relatively recent construction of the new cellar is perfectly equipped and works on the principles of gravity which eliminates the need for pumping. Everything has been thought of and designed to make the best possible wines.
