Description
Castello di Volpaia’s Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Coltassala 2018 (obtained from 95% Sangiovese and 5% Mammolo) is a wonderfully successful red wine. It smells of black fruit, spices and cultivated land. The wine remains fresh, full and lively and very drinkable
Volpaia is a small medieval village located on a hill just north of Radda in Chianti, in the heart of the Chianti Classico region. Volpaia was built in the 11th century as a fortified village on the border between Florence and Siena and is today a jewel of peace and beauty that enriches the territory of Radda in Chianti.
The Stianti-Mascheroni family will lead the company, assisted by Lorenzo Regoli and the consultant Riccardo Cotarella. Castello di Volpaia is one of the leaders of the Tuscan oenological Renaissance thanks also to the particular style of their wines which owe a lot to the terroir they benefit from.
The vineyards enjoy an excellent exposure that goes from south-east to south-west and are favored, in these years of climate change, by a high location: the vineyard area of 46 hectares is located between 450 and 600 meters on the hills to the south leading to the village. The soils are also stony, also called Macigno del Chianti, and allow perfect permeability.
The wines are consistent with this scenario: ethereal, with a well-defined floral and fruity and a mineral vein to refresh the sip.
Castello di Volpaia has been working organically for years to respect as much as possible the terroir from which its wines are born
