Description
Castell’in Villa Santacroce
Castell’in Villa is a timeless estate in Castellina in Chianti, known for a strict, vineyard-driven philosophy—one where style never overrides place. The estate’s identity has always been built around precision and longevity rather than easy, immediate appeal.
Santacroce is the winery’s flagship ambition: a Toscana Rosso IGT that combines the backbone and tension of Sangiovese with the darker, spicier structure of Cabernet Sauvignon (in proportions that can reach 50%), shaping a red wine designed to evolve and gain depth over time.
Its personality starts in the vineyards: sites with south / south-east exposures, set between 250 and 320 meters above sea level. In this part of Chianti, sunlight, airflow and classically structured soils help deliver full, balanced ripeness while preserving freshness and definition—key elements for a wine built for ageing.
In the cellar, the approach remains consistent: fermentations started with indigenous yeasts, followed by a long, layered ageing path—first in Allier barriques, then in large oak casks—before bottling without filtration and further bottle ageing in the estate’s cellar prior to release. The goal is integration and natural harmony, allowing the wine to settle into its own pace.
Santacroce is, in essence, Castell’in Villa’s “beyond-the-appellation” interpretation of a classic territory: a Tuscan red that blends local roots with an international touch, yet retains the estate’s unmistakable signature—restraint, depth, and a long stride.
