Description

The Cascina Fontana Langhe Nebbiolo 2024 is vinified more quickly (about a couple of weeks) than Barolo. The result is a fresher, easy-drinking, harmonious, and elegant wine, with a good tannic structure and well-defined acidity.

Mario and Luisa Fontana founded Cascina Fontana in 1995 with four hectares inherited from Mario’s family. Since Mario is a sixth-generation winemaker, the decision to continue producing local wines was an easy one. Cascina Fontana is located in Monforte d’Alba in Perno, with vineyards in Castiglione Falletto, La Morra, and Sinio. Mario and Luisa focus on the region’s classic grapes: Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, and Barbera.

Mario’s approach to winemaking and viticulture is traditional, passed down from his grandfather. First, he ensures that the fruit is always harvested at cool temperatures and by hand. The grapes determine the length of fermentation and therefore maturation. The Dolcetto ages in stainless steel, while the Barbera and Nebbiolo age in pairs of large barrels and 225-liter barriques for a year. The Nebbiolo spends two years in Slavonian oak and a third year in concrete. All wines spend a minimum of six months in bottle before being released, unfined and unfiltered.
