Description
The secret of Terlaner Riserva Nova Domus from Cantina Terlano is the volcanic base of the porous and sandy soil. Slightly acidic and strongly mineral, the wine is endowed with surprising attributes, including a great aging capacity for up to 40+ years in the cellar. Voluptuous but sophisticated, Nova Domus is a noble cuvée of Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc which takes its name from the Neuhaus castle which stands high above Terlano. 50% of the grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks and the remaining 50% in tonneaux. The wine matures for 12 months: 50% in large oak barrels and 50% in tonneaux. The Terlaner Riserva Nova Domus from Cantina Terlano is light straw in color with golden reflections and diffuse aromas of apricot, tropical fruits and cloves. Multilayered and harmonious, it unfolds honeyed swirls of mango, pineapple and vanilla pierced by an intense mineral flow. Very good with boiled lobster, baked brie, seared scallops, snail encroute, creamy wild mushrooms, grilled shellfish and bouillabaisse.
Founded in 1893, Cantina Terlano has become one of the leading winegrowers’ cooperatives in South Tyrol, in northeastern Italy. Located in the Dolomites, at the foot of the Alps, Terlano’s distinctive position and extraordinary terroir are fundamental to the development of their splendid wines. Located in a sheltered basin, Terlano enjoys an excellent southern exposure.
The vineyard slopes ranging from 250 to 900 m asl offer ideal conditions for the cultivation of vines, especially Lagrein, a native variety of South Tyrol. The vineyards composed of red rocks with a high mineral content retain the heat of the day, while the porous soil allows water to drain, keeping the soil dry around the roots of the vines. These factors, combined with the cool evening temperatures, give life to wines of incredible depth and potentially ageable.
With a current membership of 143 producers cultivating a total area of 165 hectares, Terlano ensures the highest standards of quality by compensating the growers for the quality of their grapes and not for the quantity. In the vineyards, the emphasis is on yield reduction in favor of more concentrated fruit production. Terlano produces 30% of red wines and 70% of whites, all with DOC quality denomination.
