Description
At the heart of the history and economy of the Chianti region since 1141, Barone Ricasoli —based in the magnificent Brolio Castle—is one of the four oldest wine estates in the world.
One of the ancestors of the current owners, Bettino Ricasoli—also known as the “Iron Baron”—was the creator of the modern recipe for Chianti Classico wine in the mid-19th century. Today, the company is chaired by Francesco Ricasoli, Bettino’s great-grandson.
The estate, which includes the castle, covers 1,200 hectares, 230 of which are vineyards. With these figures, the winery in Gaiole in Chianti is the largest in the region.
Il Granello is the result of a passion that runs deep in Barone Ricasoli’s DNA: the desire to experiment with new grape varieties and winemaking techniques that are unusual for the region. Il Granello is, therefore, a white passito with a rich aromatic profile.
The grapes, spread out on mats, undergo forced ventilation in dehumidified rooms to promote rapid and healthy drying. After the grapes are pressed, the must begins fermentation, which lasts about twenty days; the wine is then aged in stainless steel tanks for about six months.
In the glass, Granello displays a beautiful golden-yellow color. The nose is complex, with hints of apricot, dried figs, and acacia blossoms. On the palate, it is sweet and pleasant, with just the right balance of acidity. The finish is long and persistent, with the aromatic notes returning.
