Description
Chianti Classico Gran Selezione “Vigna del Termine” stands as one of the highest and most precise expressions of Fattoria Pomona, a splendid artisanal estate led by vigneron Monica Raspi, who in 2007 chose to dedicate herself entirely to her family’s land. From the very beginning, Monica directed the estate towards certified organic farming, safeguarding a true natural microcosm where the vineyards coexist in perfect balance with surrounding woods and olive groves.
The estate’s vineyards straddle a strategic border zone within the denomination: while the winery itself is located in Castellina in Chianti, the Vigna del Termine—the single vineyard designated for this Gran Selezione—stretches across the east-facing slopes that fall within the Vagliagli sub-zone (UGA). The vineyard’s name itself historically recalls this “term” or border-line, positioned exactly on the boundary between the two territories. Sitting at approximately 350 meters above sea level and bordered by dense woodlands that cool the microclimate, this specific cru features a lighter clay texture heavily characterized by a massive presence of limestone and marly components (alberese and marl). This mineral substrate drives the Sangiovese to a highly balanced ripening, bestowing the wine with outstanding refinement, freshness, and verticality.
In the cellar, winemaking honors the absolute purity of the varietal: the whole berries undergo spontaneous fermentation relying exclusively on indigenous yeasts. The aging protocol mirrors the traditional heritage of Chianti Classico: the wine matures for an extended period inside large Slavonian oak casks, followed by a crucial evolutionary phase in concrete vats before its final refinement in the bottle. The result is a pure Sangiovese that opens up with vibrant balsamic undertones and a proud, savory mineral core tightly bound to its terroir.
