Description
Vinupetra represents one of the deepest and most terroir-driven interpretations of Etna Rosso according to the vision of I Vigneri. The wine is produced from vineyards located on different slopes of Mount Etna, in areas of great historical and agricultural value, where traditional Etna viticulture is still practiced with rigor and deep respect for the landscape.
The grapes come from historic vineyards cultivated on volcanic soils rich in lava sand, ash and mineral rock, with excellent drainage. The vines, often trained in the traditional alberello etneo system, are worked entirely by hand on terraces shaped by ancient lava flows. High altitudes and marked diurnal temperature variations allow Nerello Mascalese to ripen slowly, preserving freshness, elegance and aromatic complexity.
In the glass, Vinupetra shows a bright ruby color. The aromatic profile is refined and layered, with notes of red fruits, pomegranate, dried rose, Mediterranean herbs, and subtle smoky and mineral nuances. On the palate it is tense, balanced and deep, with fine tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, saline finish that clearly reflects the volcanic origin of the soils.
The Producer: I Vigneri
I Vigneri, led by Salvo Foti, stands as one of the most respected and coherent projects on Mount Etna. Created to protect and enhance the volcano’s historic vineyards, the project is inspired by the ancient guild of Etna winegrowers founded in 1435, and it embraces values of land stewardship, landscape preservation and agricultural culture.
The estate’s vineyards consist of small parcels, many of them ungrafted, cultivated on high-altitude terraces of ancient lava flows. Vineyard work is almost entirely manual, following environmentally respectful practices with strong attention to biodiversity.
In the cellar, the philosophy is essential and uncompromising: spontaneous fermentations, minimal intervention and no stylistic manipulation. The goal is to allow the wine to express the identity of the territory with clarity and precision, capturing in the glass the energy, minerality and tension that define the great wines of Mount Etna.
Vinupetra fully embodies this philosophy, offering a deep, authentic and uncompromising expression of Nerello Mascalese and the volcano itself.
