Description
Vigneri 2024 is a pure and faithful expression of Etna Rosso, conceived as the most direct introduction to the philosophy and terroir of I Vigneri. The wine is produced from vineyards located on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, an area defined by altitude, intense luminosity, and strong diurnal temperature variation — essential conditions for preserving freshness and aromatic complexity in Nerello Mascalese.
The grapes come from historic vineyards planted on volcanic soils composed of lava sand, ash and mineral-rich rock, with excellent drainage and natural balance. The vineyards are worked entirely by hand, often trained in the traditional alberello etneo system, on steep terraces formed by ancient lava flows.
In the glass, the wine shows a bright ruby color. Aromas are focused and precise, with notes of red cherry, wild berries, rose petal, dried herbs and subtle smoky mineral tones. On the palate, the wine is fresh, finely textured and energetic, with well-integrated tannins, lively acidity, and a long, clean, mineral-driven finish. It captures the tension and elegance that define great red wines from Mount Etna.
The Producer: I Vigneri
I Vigneri, founded and led by Salvo Foti, represents one of the most important cultural and agricultural projects on Mount Etna. Inspired by the historic winegrowers’ guild established in 1435, the estate is dedicated to preserving the original landscape, ancient vineyards, and traditional farming practices of the volcano.
The project unites small, fragmented parcels of old vineyards, many of them ungrafted, cultivated on high-altitude lava terraces. Vineyard work is almost entirely manual, with environmentally respectful methods and strong attention to biodiversity.
In the cellar, the philosophy is clear and uncompromising: spontaneous fermentations, minimal intervention, and no stylistic manipulation. The wines of I Vigneri aim to reflect, with precision and transparency, the true voice of Mount Etna — its energy, minerality, tension, and exceptional aging potential.
