Sassicaia 2021 is one of the best releases ever. 100 Points Robert Paker testifies to this. The creators of Sassicaia are Mario Incisa della Rocchetta and his son Nicolò together with the oenologist Giacomo Tachis, who saw an enological future in the microclimate of Bolgheri that was unimaginable in the 70s.
Tenuta San Guido is made up of 4,500 hectares, of which 180 cultivated hectares divided into 8 different parcels. The pruning method is the spurred cordon and the yields are kept very low.
The two main vineyards are Castiglioncello and Sassicaia, which were planted between 1965 and 1985 in successive phases together with the parcel in Aia Nuova. A more recent vineyard, called Quercione, was planted from cuttings from the Sassicaia vineyard in 1989 and 1990 and is situated on a stony ridge above the cellar.
