Descrizione
The Brunello di Montalcino from Canalicchio di Sopra Vigna Montosoli 2019 is the novelty and completion of the company zoning project started 15 years ago. Project created to experiment and try to understand the peculiarities of the terroirs available and therefore of the vineyards. The concept of a single vineyard is a concept that seeks out those characteristics that make a vineyard unique and recognizable even in different vintages.
Hence the decision to choose a vintage that we defined as “transparent” as the first vintage for this new single vineyard, a vintage that could clearly and clearly read the minerality, flavor, tension and depth of this terroir, without the influence of too primary a fruit that could divert attention from the characteristics that identify the Montosoli area. Produced by the Filari Lunghi Vineyard on the Montosoli hill which lies on a galestrous soil in a high position with a very high mineral component and high presence of silt, this vineyard expresses bright, saline and vibrant wines, with great persistence and length, a vibrant acidity which jolts on the palate.
Founded in 1962 by Primo Pacenti and now owned by his son Pier Luigi Ripaccioli, Canalicchio di Sopra reflects the history of Montalcino. Located in the northern area of the municipality, Canalicchio’s 60 hectares of land are at one of the highest altitudes in the district, receiving limited exposure to the influence of the Mediterranean Sea. This position allows the estate to produce exceptional wines in difficult years because it is sheltered from Mount Amiata. Canalicchio’s special microclimates protect the vineyards from excessive heat or rain, hail, and generally helps the winery’s grapes ripen evenly.
Guided by the past and influenced by the present, Canalicchio di Sopra’s winemaking protocol brings together the best of modern and traditional methods to produce an authentic Brunello that is the product of the high altitude of its vineyards and terroir north of Montalcino.
