The Villa Calcinaia Riserva represents the deepest, most mature, and reflective soul of Chianti Classico. Compared to the base vintage, here the Sangiovese becomes more austere and layered. The bouquet opens with dark fruits, cherry in spirits, tobacco, licorice, and elegant balsamic and earthy notes. On the palate, it’s enveloping and complex: the structure is solid, yet supported by a vibrant acidity that gives it momentum and longevity. The tannins are present but polished, and the sip extends into a long, spicy finish. This is a wine that remains faithful to its territory while offering greater depth, ideal for those seeking a contemplative Chianti Classico or one for a grand meal.

This Riserva comes from vineyards located in the Montefioralle area, one of the most highly regarded zones of Chianti Classico. The terroir is distinguished by its alberese and pietraforte soils, rich in skeleton, capable of imparting finesse, nerve, and an elegant mineral tension to the wines. The vineyards’ altitude – between 300 and 500 meters – and the marked diurnal temperature shifts encourage slow and regular ripening, essential for wines destined for long aging. The result is a Riserva of great precision, where power and grace find a perfect balance.

Villa Calcinaia has belonged to the Capponi family for over five centuries, with a documented history beginning in 1524. Today, Count Sebastiano Capponi continues the work with passion and rigor, cultivating organically and respecting the traditional farming practices of Chianti. Winemaking is conducted with artisanal sensitivity and attention to detail, in order to preserve the identity of the individual crus.
