Description
Tramin’s Alto Adige Pinot Grigio Unterebner is produced with hand-selected grapes from the Unterebner vineyard. The wine is aged in large oak barrels. After seven to eight months in contact with the yeasts, the resulting wine is rich, refined and elegant.
Unterebner is a substantial Pinot Grigio that shows an intense straw color and a nose dominated by spicy and floral aromas. On the palate it balances the mineral notes with remarkable fullness and richness.
Located in the heart of South Tyrol, in the municipality of Termeno, on the southern side of the Alps, Tramin includes one of the oldest networks of farmers that form a winery. Rich in tradition, Tramin’s wines are authentic expressions of a unique terroir, supported by a common philosophy of hard work, dedication, trust and creativity among all participating members. Tramin operates on a human scale with a farmer-land relationship similar to that of a small estate, allowing for delicate manual harvesting.
Founded in 1889 by Pastor Christian Schrott, Tramin now has 270 members on approximately 620 acres in the communities of Tramin, Neumarkt, Montagna and Ora. The city of Termeno – the German name of Termeno – is home to the aromatic grape, the Gewürztraminer. The Traminer grape (as it is affectionately called here) is one of the oldest in the world and boasts a noble lineage. Recent studies show that it is the ancestor of some of the oldest vines such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling, and Pinot Bianco, Grigio and Noir. At Cantina Tramin the Traminer grape grows in the Sella sub-area, a terroir particularly suited to Gewürztraminer; hence the name of the winery, Cantina Tramin.
Location of the vineyard
Among the northernmost vineyards in Italy. These vines grow in a high-walled glacial valley that protects it from the northern cold and traps the heat of the sun. The winery itself is located on the Wine Route (Strada di Vino / Weinstrasse) in the municipality of Termeno – or Tramin in German – a few miles south of the provincial capital Bolzano (Bozen) and 80 km from the Austrian border.
