Description

Terreno Sillano Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is the result of an extremely limited production, with only 4,000 bottles and 300 magnums available.

This wine is produced exclusively with Sangiovese grapes coming from the Chianti Classico area, precisely from the UGA Montefioralle, located on the left bank of the Greve river.

The grapes come from the San Piero a Sillano vineyard, located in the picturesque village of Montefioralle, with an eastern exposure that allows it to best capture the morning light. The vineyard is located at an altitude of 500 meters above sea level, on Pietraforte soil, known for the presence of limestone pebbles which give a certain hardness and resistance to erosion, ideal characteristics for viticulture. The grapes are harvested by hand in small boxes to guarantee maximum integrity of the fruit.

The fermentation, started with natural yeasts, and the maceration take place in open 10 hl tubs, favoring optimal oxygenation and greater aromatic complexity. The wine is then aged for 18 months in large 12 and 24 hl oak barrels, followed by a further year of bottle aging in the Terreno cellar.

The residual sugar content is 0.5 g/l. The 2019 vintage is considered one of the best of the millennium, thanks to balanced temperatures throughout the year that produced elegant and complex wines, perfect for aging. The 2019 vintage is reminiscent of the great Chianti Classicos of the 1980s, with extraordinary potential for evolution. The wine, coming from a single vineyard, stands out for its vertical character, which combines finesse and reactivity.

On the nose and palate it presents itself with elegance and freshness, with a structure that promises excellent aging. Thanks to its elegant freshness, Terreno Sillano Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is easy to pair with a variety of dishes. It is ideal with tagliatelle with meat sauce, Tuscan sausages with garlic black cabbage, and also pleasantly surprises with a salmon fillet served with potatoes and a rich white wine sauce.

The Terreno winery is located in the heart of Chianti Classico, near the town of Greve in Chianti, where viticulture is a tradition that dates back to Roman times. The Ruhne family began producing wine in 1988 and today the winery is completely self-sufficient from an energy point of view, with the aim of passing the land on to future generations in better conditions than when it was acquired.
