Description
Today, Tenuta San Guido needs no introduction. Sassicaia 2016 was named the best wine in the world by Wine Spectator magazine. An award that is nothing more than a confirmation for the many enthusiasts and collectors from all over the world who every year eagerly await the release of the new vintage of what has by now become a legend of Italian wine production. The creators of Sassicaia are Mario Incisa della Rocchetta and his son Nicolò together with the oenologist Giacomo Tachis, who glimpsed in the microclimate of Bolgheri an unimaginable enological future in the 70s.
Tenuta San Guido is made up of 4,500 hectares, of which 180 cultivated hectares divided into 8 different parcels. The pruning method is the spurred cordon and the yields are kept very low.
The two main vineyards are Castiglioncello and Sassicaia, which were planted between 1965 and 1985 in successive phases together with the parcel in Aia Nuova. A more recent vineyard, called Quercione, was planted from cuttings from the Sassicaia vineyard in 1989 and 1990 and is situated on a stony ridge above the cellar.
