Description
Tenuta Carleone Randagio 2022 is yet another dramatic twist from Sean O’Callaghan. Il Randagio is a 50% Cabernet Franc and 50% Merlot vinified in “Guercio style”: grapes pressed delicately with the feet and very long maceration for about 18 months in steel and concrete. All imagination and drink, for what is affectionately called “Il Guercino”.
Tenuta di Carlone is located on a sunny and gentle slope in Radda in Chianti. The estate extends over 100 hectares of land among woods, olive groves, and 20 hectares of Sangiovese vineyards, some more than 60 years old. The winemaking is traditional and artisanal, with long macerations, fermentations with indigenous yeasts and the use of whole bunches in cement and oak vats, old and new. The people behind this estate are the Austrian entrepreneur Karl Egger and his friend Sean O’Callaghan, aka Il Guercio. A non-interventionist winemaking approach is adopted, without commercial yeasts and without fining agents. Both organic and biodynamic principles are used in the vineyards.
