Description
Bucerchiale 2020 is Selvapiana’s flagship wine, a Chianti Rufina Riserva produced from the grapes of the best vineyard on the estate, Bucerchiale. Francesco Giuntini, in collaboration with the young winemaker Franco Bernabei in his second vintage in Selvapiana, created this special wine to be a long-aging benchmark for the best Sangiovese from Rùfina and Selvapiana.
The wine is not a blend, as is normal with Chianti, but rather is a pure Sangiovese. First produced in 1979, Bucerchiale is bottled only in the best vintages.
Selvapiana Bucerchiale Riserva Chianti Rufina is a generous and exuberant expression of Sangiovese that always remains faithful to its traditional roots linked to the territory. This wine speaks with a Tuscan language, giving voice to berries, truffles and aromas of Mediterranean herbs. The finish is fruity with an elegant structure and fresh acidity.
Selvapiana is among the two dozen best-known and most respected winemakers in Rùfina – the smallest sub-area of Chianti. The Selvapiana winery, like all of Chianti Rùfina, is located close to the Sieve river, a tributary of the Arno upstream from Florence. The air is cooler and cleaner here than in the city, which is why these hills have long been a refuge for aristocrats fleeing Florence’s summer heat. During the Renaissance, a noble Florentine family built the Selvapiana residence by enlarging a medieval watchtower that was one of the outposts guarding Florence from enemy invaders.
