Description
For sale at Casa Porciatti the Chianti Classico Poggio ai Mori of San Donatino The scent is succulent and lively of dark cherry, blackberry jam, spices and toasted bread. In the mouth it is straightforward and inviting to drink. In 1971 Léo Férre – the well-known French singer and poet – and his wife Maria Cristina Diaz bought the Podere San Donatino where they settled with the whole family and where Maria Cristina and her children still live today.
Right from the start, the Ferrés took care of getting the vineyards and about 5,000 olive trees back on track and making them productive. The first harvests were sold in bulk until the early 1990s when it was decided to bottle and start marketing Chianti Classico on its own. The company has been followed up to the last few days by Giulio Gambelli and today by Federico Staderini, has a traditional approach where the sign of the territory and the difference of the vintages have absolute prevalence over any form of standardization of the wines. The fermentations take place spontaneously without the use of inoculated yeasts, the macerations are prolonged and the wines remain “sur lie” for several months. The base wines are aged only in steel while the crus age in wood.
