Description
Riecine Riecine 2021 is produced from grapes from the historic 1.5-hectare vineyard of Palmina, on the Riecine hill in Gaiole in Chianti. The soils are calcareous and the vines are on average 40-45 years old. Double Guyot pruned and Sapling.
The Riecine Riecine is the result of grapes harvested by hand and sorted on a vibrant sorting table, de-stemmed, then maceration in concrete tanks, with indigenous yeasts. Aged 50% in old tonneuax and 50% in Nomblot roe then aged for 6 months in bottle. Berries on a lean approach with lots of freshly ground pepper. The wine obviously flaunts its cool-climate origins and offers an interesting interpretation of the grape variety where freshness is at the center
Riecine has always followed a particular path whoever has been in charge. Founded by Englishman John Dunkley and now run by the Frank family, the estate is committed to a natural approach. The company is certified organic and at the same time follows biodynamic practices. The ground is therefore alive, populated by plants, flowers and herbs. biodiversity is encouraged and consequently the vines’ own defenses and the health of the vineyards.
Only the best bunches pass manual selection, the ripest and healthiest ones; everything else stays in the fields to return to the land. Very little sulfur dioxide, natural yeasts and long fermentations thus the wines of Riecine, delicately, come into the world. Strongly believing in Sangiovese as the only variety capable of interpreting the terroir, the wines of this splendid estate have a “sense of place” in their soul
