Description
Riecine La Gioia 2019 is a 100% Sangiovese Supertuscan from vineyards with different morphological characteristics. A wine of great power and evolutionary capacity. Aged for 2 years, in new and second passage barriques, to soften the tannins and give roundness. It has a complex, balanced, deep taste and very ripe fruit.
In La Gioia the bunches are checked one by one on a vibrating selection table, then destemmed, finally the berries checked again before being decanted into Nomblot non-vitrified cement vats and French Grenier oak truncated cones. Fermentation begins 4-5 days after the grapes enter the vats, and the must is kept at a controlled temperature to promote cryomaceration also with the help of dry ice. Generally the fermentation activity lasts for 14-15 days, at the end of which, after a brief submerged cap maceration, the mass is drawn off in tonneau, 33% new, 33% second passage and 33% third , for 24 months. Riecine has always followed a particular path whoever has been in charge.
Founded near Gaiole in Chianti by Englishman John Dunkley and now run by the Frank family, the estate is committed to a natural approach. The company is certified organic and at the same time follows biodynamic practices. The ground is therefore alive, populated by plants, flowers and herbs. biodiversity is encouraged and consequently the vines’ own defenses and the health of the vineyards. Only the best bunches pass manual selection, the ripest and healthiest ones; everything else stays in the fields to return to the land. Very little sulfur dioxide, natural yeasts and long fermentations thus the wines of Riecine, delicately, come into the world. Strongly believing in Sangiovese as the only variety capable of interpreting the terroir, the wines of this splendid estate have a “sense of place” in their soul
