Description

The Rosso di Montalcino 2018 by Poggio di Sotto (with 18,000 bottles produced) is a beautiful wine that could rival the Brunello of some of the best estates in the appellation. This is particularly true in the case of this vintage which is excellent from all points of view. On the nose, aromas of red fruit, black currant and wild raspberry. Wine is no less important than Brunello, but it strives to show Sangiovese at a different time of its maturity.

Rosso di Montalcino di Poggio di Sotto is produced from a vineyard located about 200, 300 and 450 meters above sea level, with a different solar orientation. The production area is in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, in the valley of the Orcia river. The grapes are harvested by hand and placed in 15-20 kg containers. The yield is 3000-3500 kg per hectare. After ripening, they are immediately subjected to a rigorous selection process. The vinification takes place after spontaneous fermentation in wooden barrels. The wine remains in 30 hl oak barrels for 24 months and another 6 months in the bottle before being sold. It is not filtered.
