Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino 2017 came out really special. It is a glorious expression of the vintage. Brunello di Montalcino 2017 shows concentration and richness in great harmony. Poggio di Sotto is one of Montalcino’s landmarks and the winery team continues the tradition with this 22,000-bottle release that will evolve magnificently for the next two decades.
Brunello di Montalcino from Poggio di Sotto is one of the most sought after and appreciated wines of the Ilcinese appellation. The production area is that of Castelnuovo dell’Abate, where the vines come from vineyards at 200, 300 and 450 meters above sea level. The soil is very poor and rocky, primarily composed of sedimentary rock. Fermentation occurs spontaneously in wooden vats. The wine then ages for 42 months in 30 hl Slovenian oak barrels.
Poggio di Sotto becomes one of the emblems of traditional and uncompromising Brunello di Montalcino thanks to Piero Palmucci, its founder, who arrives here at the end of the nineties. Together with Giulio Gambelli, master taster, this small reality of Castelnuovo dell’Abate conquers the hearts of Sangiovese lovers. Even today, although the ownership has changed, the essence and spirit of Poggio di Sotto wines remain the same.
