Description
Sapaio 2020 is a classic blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Petit Verdot and 10% Cabernet Franc. This wine has gone from being a Bolgheri Superiore to an IGT Toscana because Massimo Piccin now sources some grapes outside the appellation in Bibbona. Full and generous bouquet and reflections of cherry, dried raspberry, cedar, grilled herb and tobacco. Sapaio 2020 is the result of a formidable vintage
Podere Sapaio was born in 1999, after Massimo Piccin convinced his family to help him invest in the prestigious Bolgheri terroir, creating a winery in what is one of the most famous wine-growing areas in Italy. A native of Veneto, Massimo has always felt a deep passion for wine and wanted to direct this passion towards his own high quality wine project.
The sea, located less than 10 kilometers away, offers an exceptional climate for growing vines and is the distinctive feature of this area. All the vineyards were planted between 2000 and 2005 under the supervision of Carlo Ferrini with a density of approximately 7500 plants per hectare and using wooden pergolas. The cultivation is with double spurred cordon at 45-50 cm from the ground, allowing the vines to maintain a healthy balance between leaves and fruit. Respect for the territory and a sustainable approach are the two cornerstones of Podere Sapaio’s winemaking philosophy.
Work in the vineyard is an expression of uncompromising harmony between man and nature, and the estate has recently switched to organic farming practices. From the harvest to the selection of the bunches, everything is done strictly by hand. In the cellar, the quality of the production is combined with technical expertise. These techniques aim to underline the harmonious interplay between nature and human beings
