Description

Podere Castellinuzza Chianti Classico 2020 is a high-altitude Sangiovese from Lamole and comes with a beautiful fruit. In the mouth it is taut, mineral, and with an aftertaste of orange peel and graphite.

The vineyards of Podere Castellinuzza are located at an altitude of 550m, just below the splendid village of Lamole within the Chianti Classico region. The owner Paolo Coccia was a “sharecropper”, before his father, Gino, bought the company in 1961. All inside the property it is still possible to find 150-year-old prephylloxera vines. A rarity in Italy, a unique case in Chianti.

The main reason why the vines survived phylloxera appears to be due to the location of the vines, which are very isolated. But also to the soil called “Macigno del Chianti”, which is compressed sandstone with traces of silicon. His daughter Serena is now helping Paolo both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Natural fermentation is carried out by indigenous yeasts and takes place in large vats glass-lined concrete. The wine undergoes as little intervention as possible during all phases, leaving nature the task of bringing out its character.
