Description
The vineyard is located in Balluri, in Neive, on the bricco of the same name (Bricco Mondino). Piero Busso Barbaresco Mondino is the most open, fruity and with delicate tannins. The first to leave the cellar: a perfect wine for those looking to connect with this historic red for the first time. Piero Busso’s family estate is a prominent name in Barbaresco for its ability to convey the natural elegance of Nebbiolo di Neive. Piero Busso’s father planted the Nebbiolo vines that today surround the house and the family cellar in the “Albesani” cru by hand in 1948. Now Piero’s son, Pierguido, and daughter, Emanuela, work side by side with their father and mother, Lucia, in the artisanal processing of the family’s wines. Three of the estate’s four crus – Albesani, Mondino and Gallina – are located in Neive, where Barbaresco’s highest vineyards are located. The fourth, San Stunet, is located in Treiso, at the southern end of the denomination. What is striking when tasting these wines is not a “house” style but a symphony of unique flavors and textures typical of each vineyard. The vineyards are cared for according to organic principles and the estate will be officially certified starting from the 2019 harvest. Most of the work in the fields is done by hand, by Piero Busso and his son Pierguido. The grapes are harvested in small boxes and destemmed before fermenting on indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks or in wooden barrel fermenters, called “toothed”. Macerations are long and slow, for some wines up to 60 days. The wines are aged in large, neutral oak barrels (“botti”) and bottled unfiltered.
