Description

Galatrona is Petrolo’s most acclaimed wine. A Merlot cru produced exclusively with grapes from the Galatrona vineyard. The unique microclimate allows the concentration of the noble components of the grapes which are fundamental for the great structure, elegance, balance and persistence that have made Galatrona 2020 one of the most coveted wines in Italy.

Petrolo is the definition of a cult winery, with an owner and history that helped create its legendary status. The reference wine of the estate, Merlot Galatrona, deservedly receives prize after prize from the press and is part of the history of the Tuscan quality revolution in the late 80s and 90s.

Although practically unknown even in the world of wine, the Valdarno di Sopra denomination dates back to the times of the Medici family during the Renaissance, and the area has always been renowned for the winemaking potential of the small area of ​​Tuscany near the Chianti region in which it is found.va.

Petrolo was bought in the 1940s by Gastone Bazzocchi, who was the first to start growing high-quality Sangiovese-based wines on the estate. His grandson, Luca Sanjust, brought the winery to today’s cult status. A successful art scholar and painter in his own right, Luca decided to change his ways in the early 1980s and has since dedicated his time and passion to Petrolo.
