Description
Monteraponi Baron’Ugo 2019 comes from a vineyard at 570 meters above sea level. No commercial yeasts, nutrients or malolactic bacteria are used, the fermentation takes place in concrete tanks, followed by a maceration of approximately 45 days on the skins. The wine is then aged in 3,000 liter oak barrels for 36 months. No filtration
Nice wine, one of the best Sangiovese around. Spicy aroma and flavour, with tobacco leaves, sandalwood and red fruits. Very long, very complex; drinkable upon release, but with evolutionary potential for at least 15 years.
Monteraponi is an ancient medieval village not far from Radda in Chianti, which once belonged to Baron Ugo, Marquis of Tuscany in the 10th century.
Only since 2003 has the current owner Michele Braganti produced and marketed his own bottlings. The company had been owned by the Braganti family since 1974, but the grapes were sold. The vineyard area extends for 10 hectares. The vineyards are planted at 570 meters above sea level, some of the highest in Chianti Classico, on calcareous soils (alberese and galestro).
I vini sono tradizionali, l’intervento della tecnologia è veramente minimo ed essenziale.
