Description
Massolino Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda is an expression of the Cru of the same name from Serralunga d’Alba. The 3.5 hectare owned Cru is located at 330 meters above sea level on calcareous-marly soils. The yield is around 45 q/Ha, the grapes are harvested in the second half of October. In the cellar the vinification takes place with fermentation and maceration for 15-20 days at a temperature varying between 31 and 33° C, it is aged for a total of 6 years, of which 3.5 in barrels of approximately 30 hl in Slavonian oak and 2 .5 in the bottle.
The first Massolino winery was built by Giuseppe, son of Giovanni, who, together with his sister Angela, extended the company with the purchase of new land and, in 1934, was one of the founders of the Consortium for the Defense of Barolo and Barbaresco . At that time, Joseph had six children. Three of them, Giovanni, Camilla and Renato, followed in their father’s footsteps, expanding the company with the purchase of cru vineyards that are authentic jewels: Margheria, Parafada and Vigna Rionda.
In the 1990s, Franco and Roberto, both winemakers, joined the family estate. Their work condenses the experience of an entire family and the ambition of a new generation, determined to make an important contribution to the innovation of oenological and agronomic techniques and to the image of the estate in Italy and abroad.
