Description
La Massa is the flagship wine of this important Panzano in Chianti company.
After spending time in Bordeaux, Giampaolo Motta left his leather business in Naples and headed north to work in Chianti, drawn by his passion for wine. In Bordeaux he had acquired the practices and knowledge that would later serve him in his Chianti adventure in La Massa, where Giampaolo owns 27 hectares of vineyards in the Conca d’Oro of Panzano in Chianti. He bought this ancient property in 1991, with its vineyards that have been cultivated since the 15th century and the following year he already made himself known for the George I.
In 1998, Giampaolo loaned “La Massa”, a Chianti Classico which he downgraded to IGT Toscana in 2002. Wanting the freedom to produce high-quality wines that didn’t require specific percentages of Sangiovese, Giampaolo decided to only produce IGTs driven by the terrior of La Massa . Today Giorgio Primo is a mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot and La Massa is composed of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot or Alicante B.
