Description

Giuseppe Mascarello’s Barolo Villero comes from the eponymous cru in the commune of Castiglione Falletto, one of the most historically prestigious areas of Barolo. The vineyards sit at around 280 meters above sea level, on calcareous-clay soils with sandy veins, which lend structure, depth, and marked elegance to the wines. The southwest exposure ensures slow, even ripening. Harvesting is done by hand, and the vinification follows the estate’s traditional style: fermentation with the cap floating for 15–20 days, followed by aging in large Slavonian oak casks for at least 36 months.

Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio is one of Barolo’s most iconic producers, with a legacy that dates back to the mid-19th century. Today the estate is run by Mauro Mascarello, the fourth generation of the family, and widely regarded as a master of traditional Piemontese winemaking. The approach is firmly classic, yet rigorous and coherent, with a deep respect for the identity of each individual vineyard.

The winery is based in Monchiero, in an 18th-century building purchased by the family in 1921. While the legendary Monprivato cru remains the beating heart of the estate, in recent decades the Mascarellos have invested in other top sites such as Villero and Santo Stefano di Perno, expanding their range without compromising their philosophy.

Barolo Villero is a pure and classical expression of its terroir, producing wines that are deep, structured, and long-lived—perfectly aligned with the stylistic vision of the Mascarello family. It is a Barolo of precision and power, with firm yet elegant tannins and outstanding aging potential.
