Description
The GIANNI BRUNELLI LE CHIUSE DI SOTTO Rosso di Montalcino 2022 – is a hymn to Sangiovese and its potential. The Gianni Brunelli Rosso di Montalcino opens on the nose with aromas of red fruit, ripe cherry and plum. Followed by typical Sangiovese tones: rosebud, soil and wild herbs. The wine matures in Slavonian oak barrels for a short period of seven months. This means that the freshness and fruity appeal of the wine are intact.
100% Sangiovese Grosso planted at 350 m above sea level on clayey soils with a large presence of marl. 18 days of maceration on the skins followed by 8 months of aging in 5hl, 10hl, 21hl, 25hl Slavonian oak barrels. 9,000 bottles produced.
Gianni Brunelli, a man of many interests, opened Osteria Le Logge di Siena in 1971 (today one of the best restaurants in the city). In 1987, he returned to Montalcino and purchased “Le Chiuse di Sotto”, an estate that had belonged to his father Dino, with 2 hectares of vineyards 200 meters above sea level in the northern part of the region. Brunelli replanted most of the vines in 1989, but left a small plot of old estate intact dating back to his father’s original 1947 vineyard. After Gianni died in 2008, his wife Laura took over the reins along with her brother, Adriano.
A few years ago, the company purchased the “Podernovone” vineyard, located further south in Montalcino. The 4-hectare property is located 350 meters above sea level and enjoys magnificent views of Mount Amiata. The soil of Podernovone is made up of calcareous marl and shale, which reflects light and heat.
