Description

Giacomo Conterno’s 2017 Barolo Francia speaks softly, whispering promises of depth and complexity. The wine unfolds slowly, revealing new elements with each spin in the glass. The bouquet exudes elegance and complexity that will accompany it over time.

Giacomo Conterno’s 2017 Barolo Francia highlights all the immense potential of the Nebbiolo grape: mineral, floral with crushed rose and violet petals, fresh herbs, earth warmed by the sun and truffles. Energetic yet velvety, it is an extraordinary Barolo from Serralunga d’Alba that will reward palates who love the Langhe and the Langhe tradition. Formerly called “Cascina Francia”, Barolo Francia is vinified in a classic way with natural yeasts, fermentation at a controlled temperature and a long maceration of 3-4 weeks; subsequently the wine matures in large Slavonian barrels and then in the bottle for a total of four years.

Cantine Giacomo Conterno is one of the biggest names in all of Piedmont. The estate was founded in 1908 when Giacomo’s father, Giovanni Conterno, started a tavern in the town of San Giuseppe. Giovanni made Barolo from purchased grapes and sold what was not necessary for the tavern, as was customary throughout the region at the beginning of the twentieth century. The Riserva Barolo Monfortino, was bottled for the first time in 1920 produced by Giovanni and his son Giacomo on their return from the war. The myth began like this.
